Ohana; Dublin's first Tiki bar
Updated: Apr 2, 2020
Having just landed back on Irish soil, I excitedly made my way into central Dublin's Harcourt Street for a very special press launch. Ohana, meaning family, is a fabulous new Tiki bar ready to put the proverbial cat among the pigeons of the Dublin nightlife scene.
The evening promised to be a debaucherous occasion of delicious Tiki cocktails, delectable canapes, dancing and transportation to a far flung paradise and it well and truly delivered on all accounts!
On arrival we were greeted by the most lovely hostess who adorned us with floral necklaces and offered us a glass of champagne. I was immediately intrigued by the layout of this fabulous venue; an exciting, dimly lit, curious maze of rooms, one leading to the next revealing a unique suprise.
My personal highlight; the original brickwork cavern, home to the Kracken Rum bar, definitely evoked the WOW! factor and would make the most wonderful space for a private function. There is also a fabulous Tiki garden which allows revellers to take their conversations away from the beats of the DJ if they wish.
The devil is definitely in the detail at Ohana, everything from the hand carved wooden Tiki mugs that have been sourced from around the world to the selection of over 200 rums on offer have been carefully considered and curated.
Luckily they say that Thursday is the new Friday which gave me license to sip on an array of exotic cocktails. I highly recommend the frozen Pina Colada, and as a self confessed Pina Colada afficianado that says alot! I also thoroughly enjoyed the 'Painkiller', which could be considered an alluring sister of the Pina Colada; a fruity blend of rums muddled with orange, pinapple and coconut.
A wonderful tropical oasis of conviviality in Central Dublin, and for one night only I truly managed to escape an otherwise lacklustre January! Ohana is open 5PM till late Monday to Thursday and 3PM till late on the weekends and guarantees a night of unadulterated fun!
